Synopsis

A journey through the life and work of Elena Tito, a ceramic artist from Atacama who passed away in 2022. Heir to the ancestral Lickanantay tradition, Elena teaches us about working with clay and her profound love for the land. The documentary is narrated by Elena herself, through excerpts from an interview conducted in 2021, the last recording of her life.

Sofía Quirós y Daniel Canto Molina

Sofía Quirós was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She holds a degree in Visual Arts from UNA (Argentina) and works as an illustrator and audiovisual producer. Daniel Canto Molina was born in Antofagasta, Chile. He holds a degree in History from UAHC (Chile), a Master’s degree in Anthropology from IDES UNSAM (Argentina), and is a musician. In 2017, they founded Chepo! Animación, a small animation studio that began as a community film project. They focus on conducting traveling stop-motion animation workshops where participants create animated short films with local communities, based on the cultural identity of each region. They have created over 60 short films with children, teenagers, and adults in workshops held in various locations in Argentina and Chile. They also produce other animated content. In January 2023, they completed the short documentary T’ipaqkuna kullakitas (Little Weaver Sisters), filmed in Buenos Aires as part of an animation workshop with Quechua and Aymara migrant women. The short received several awards at festivals and was declared of interest by the Buenos Aires Legislature. In 2024, they premiered the animated documentary Nelly Lemus, Footprints of the Roads and the educational documentary The Church of Chiu Chiu and Its Factory. In 2025, they premiered the documentary Elena Tito, Memories of Clay and are currently producing a documentary about the Chango people of northern Chile.
