Synopsis

At its heart, NKANYEZI is an intimate story about a woman’s fight for autonomy, not only over her life but her own body. Inspired by real events, the film follows a wheelchair-bound woman who discovers love and the promise of a future with a young man. But her controlling mother threatens to dismantle her dreams, forcing Nkanyezi into a life-altering decision she may never recover from.

Monde Sibisi is a South African actor, writer, producer, and director working across film, television, and theater. He appeared in Gavin Hood’s Eye in the Sky and has produced major South African television series including MasterChef SA and Deal or No Deal. His play Happiness was shortlisted for the 2022 Almasi Playwriting Conference. In 2025, he directed his debut short film Nkanyezi, exploring disability, love, and autonomy within a protective family dynamic.
