Ricki “Ricasso” Nelson is an award-winning filmmaker and writer with Southern roots. A military brat born in Virginia and raised in North Carolina, she’s a graduate of UNC Wilmington’s Film Studies and Creative Writing programs—but a lifelong student of the game. After graduating, she worked in various roles across the film industry. A genre-agnostic writer, Ricki is drawn to character-driven narratives that explore complicated women and small towns with big secrets, much like her own hometown. Now a recent New York transplant, Ricki is the founder of Black Creatives Social Club, an organization that brings together creatives in film and media. She’s also one half of the filmmaking duo behind SKRAPPI Productions, a Black women-led production company making films that talk back. (Socials: @astoldbyricki)
