My Name is Maalum

synopsis

Maalum is a black Brazilian girl who was born and raised in a home surrounded by love and Afrocentric references. As soon as Maalum leaves the bosom of her home, she is faced with the challenges imposed by the discourses and practices of a racist society. As soon as she arrives at school, everyone laughs at her name. She doesn’t understand why and, with the help of her family, Maalum will discover the meaning and sadness turns to pride through her ancestry.

Luísa Copetti

Luísa Copetti is a visual artist in training, art director, illustrator and animation director. She worked as animation director, art director, animator and illustrator in the series “Afinal, quem é Deus?”, directed by Thais Fernandes. Since 2019, she has been developing as animation director and art director educational content animations, by Hype Animation Studio, for the platform and Youtube channel TED Education. Among the authorial works, there are the short films “Tainá e a Chuva”, co-production Sincrocine Produções, and “Meu nome é Maalum”, produced by Pé de Moleque Filmes, and “For what serve as things”, production Cena Expandida.
