Pelo Malo – Bad Hair

Pelo Malo – Bad Hair

synopsis

Pelo Malo – Bad Hairis a visual poem exploring the duality of curly hair’s cultural narrative, depicting the tension between self-expression and imposed beauty standards. Opening with a silent exchange between a hairstylist and the artist’s hair, it highlights the stylist’s unspoken wish to embrace her own textured hair, free from societal expectations. This layered journey captures the struggle of “fixing” natural hair to meet norms, only to reveal that true transformation lies in redefining our stories about beauty and belonging.
