Saturday, December 9, 2023
Chicago, Illinois
Presented by Black & Brown Femme Films
The ViBe Pop-Up Museum was an immersive cultural exhibition exploring sensuality through the lyrics, movement, visual art, cinema, and literature created by BIPOC women.
The exhibition invited visitors on a celebratory journey through the vibrant history of sensual culture shaped by women of color. By bringing different artistic forms into one space, ViBe encouraged audiences to experience this cultural legacy while reconsidering established ideas about beauty, desire, femininity, and expression.
We Are a ViBe
Sensuality as Art, Memory, and Culture
ViBe presented sensuality as more than appearance. It could be heard in a lyric, expressed through movement, preserved in literature, interpreted through cinema, or transformed into visual art. Together, these forms created a broader portrait of how BIPOC women have shaped sensual culture.

Who Defines Sensuality?
The exhibition encouraged visitors to look beyond limiting or inherited definitions of sensuality. It centered women of color as creators of their own visual language, artistic expression, and cultural identity.
By connecting historical influence with contemporary art, ViBe celebrated sensuality as something expressive, imaginative, personal, and deeply rooted in culture.

Art Forms in Conversation
Placing music, movement, cinema, art, and literature alongside one another allowed each form to deepen the others. The result was a museum experience that invited audiences to observe, listen, reconsider, and celebrate the creative influence of BIPOC women.
