01 Our mission
At the Black & Brown Femme Films (BBFF), we offer free venues to showcase underrepresented voices in cinema. Our mission is to create an inclusive platform for filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, particularly Black, Brown, and women-identifying creators, so they can share their work without financial barriers. We believe storytelling can shape culture and drive change.
02 Our Impact
Since its launch in 2023, BBFF has received 1397 film submissions, becoming the first free festival dedicated to uplifting Black and Brown women in cinema. We’re on track to reach nearly 2,000 submissions by BBFF ‘25. Our partnership with the Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago continues to provide free venues and resources, ensuring diverse stories reach wider audiences.
03 Our Future
By 2025, we aim to amplify the voices of filmmakers and artists through our annual events, which include:
- The Black & Brown Femme Film Festival.
- The Poetry Film Festival, celebrating the fusion of spoken word and visual storytelling.
- Vibe: An Exhibition Celebrating Women of Color Pop Up Museum.
04 Our Initatives
Our key initiatives: Going Global. By 2026, we'll launch two separate events-taking our Vibe Exhibition Celebrating Women of Color pop-up museum on the road and collaborating with other film festivals worldwide. We're too big to stay in one place.
